CMCCCambridge Slot Car Club
The Cambridge Model Car Club (now named Cambridge Slot Car Club), was established in 1969, when a group of enthusiasts bought an 8-lane track from the last remaining commercial raceway in South Africa, which was located in Sea Point.
The track, which had a huge banked corner, was shoehorned into premises in Maitland, the same premises where the club is located today.
At first, the club raced 1/24th scale cars. Since the early 1960s however, 1/32nd scale club racing had been the mainstay of slot racing in South Africa. With Cambridge being one of the few clubs still racing 1/24th scale cars, it was decided to convert to 1/32nd scale in early 1974. A new 6-lane track was built, wide enough to accommodate 1/24th scale cars as well. The track is still in use today.
The Cambridge Slot Car Club is located at 10 Cambridge Road, Maitland and meets twice a week. Scale-24 cars are raced on Tuesday nights, with the faster slot cars being raced on Friday nights. The club opens at 19:00 with racing commencing at 20:00 on both nights. Visitors are always most welcome.
